We’re excited to announce the biggest update we’ve ever made to our platform! One of the most frequent complaints we’ve received over time was that users couldn’t simply place a new button, image, text or other content where they wanted. The reality was that our software architecture didn’t really support this, so it was a pretty large amount of work to make it happen. However, we felt this was so important that we decided to go back to the drawing board and get it done! We believe we have now empowered you to have much more creative control over your website! While this article won’t cover all the new features, we’ll summarize some of the biggest ones. Let’s dive in!
Here are some of the new things you can do!
- Insert, copy and move single elements (like buttons, images, text, etc.)
- Create new columns and rows and adjust their sizes
- Duplicate and move columns and rows
- Use custom element combinations
- Control spacing between elements
- Set column backgrounds and borders
Insert and move single elements
Our new system is based on a grid. You can think of it a little bit like a spreadsheet. Ultimately, you’re just putting content inside the grid cells. You can add multiple pieces of content in each cell.
To do this, simply click one of the green plus buttons. This will show up in empty cells and also will show up above, below and in between each piece of content when you hover in that space. After clicking the plus button, you will be presented with a list of elements to insert. Simply choose one and the element will appear in the appropriate place.
You can also move each element by single clicking it, then selecting the move button. You will then be presented with a number of ‘drop points’ where you can place the content.
Create new columns and rows and adjust their sizes
Sometimes you’ll want to create new rows and columns for your content. We’ve made this super simple! By clicking the add row or add column button at the top of the block, you’ll be presented with a number of points to choose where you’d like to put your new row or column.
Keep in mind that rows and columns affect how your content stacks in the mobile view. Columns stack from left to right and rows stack from top to bottom. Here is an example:
Duplicate and move columns and rows
Sometimes you have a column of content that you want to repeat in multiple places. To do this, simply click the column settings icon, then the duplicate button, then select the location you would like to place the duplicated content.
If you decide you would like to move a column, do the same thing, except use the move button instead.
If you need two elements next to each other, but in the same column, you can insert a row element.
This will allow you to create columns that look like this
Control spacing between elements
With all the new capabilities, we wanted to empower you to create spacing as you desired.
You can add space inside a column by using padding. This will affect all the content inside the column. Simply open the column settings, click the padding button and begin to adjust the sliders.
You can add space in between elements by using the spacer. This will appear when you hover over the space between elements. Note that there is no spacer above the top element or below the bottom element in a column. In order to add space here, you need to use the padding controls shown above.
You can also change the size of the columns with the column resize.
Set column backgrounds and borders
Each column can have a color and image set as the background. Open the column settings and click on the background settings button. Click the check boxes to turn on the background and adjust the settings.
You can also add borders
